Aside from all the turmoil of dealing with paperwork, visas, a foreign language, finding affordable housing, work and perhaps a reliable school for your children, you may feel overwhelmed by additional changes. Family and friends you’re leaving behind. Another culture with daily life practices you find strange or even hostile. You may come from a country in conflict or war. You may be traveling along with a partner who has a job, but how about you, are you leaving your prosperous career behind? You may have a hard time finding a job of your own and get credits for your former studies and career. You may feel clumsy in a language you do not master. You may have unfinished business in your past that you want to clarify and tackle. You may struggle as a member of the LGBT community. Or simply miss your old familiar surroundings, landscapes, buildings, smells and sounds. All these factors, and many more, can make you anxious or depressed. The good news is, working with ACT will present you a great way to cope with all these challenges and give you tools that will benefit you for the rest of your life, wherever you are.

What is ACT?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a modern, highly effective form of mental health therapy that helps you to become more resilient and enhances your well-being. Learning and experiencing six core processes, you learn to acknowledge your relationship with your thoughts and feelings and discover how they no longer need to dominate your actions, while not trying to change them. You’ll reconsider your values and work ACTively towards your heartfelt goals.

Why ACT for expats?

ACT is an exciting, fairly new, popular therapy used by therapists and coaches alike, in lots of countries around the globe. Other then cognitive behavioural therapy – which focuses on changing negative thoughts to reduce symptoms, ACT emphasizes accepting difficult thoughts and emotions while committing to actions aligned with personal values. It is an effective therapy that will always benefit you if you are willing to take steps. I am an experienced life coach and former expat, with training and experience in the field of ACT, and I can guide you through the process in English, Spanish and French.

How long do I need coaching for?

We work with the six core processes, usually one process per session, acceptation usually takes two sessions, and one session for getting to know each other and hear your story. It is important that you complete assignments between meetings. Depending on your situation and questions, we can plan more sessions. We can also work in five sessions if you want to speed things up and are willing to do more ‘homework’ between sessions. In group trainings we work with six sessions.

  • One 1:1 session € 198,- (90 minutes session) Location: Amsterdam Nieuw West or Zoom.
  • Five 1:1 sessions: € 945,- (90 minutes per session) Location: Amsterdam Nieuw West or Zoom.
  • Eight 1:1 sessions (recommended): € 1445,-. Location: Amsterdam Nieuw West or Zoom.
  • Six group sessions: € 350,- per participant. A minimum of 4 and maximum of 6 participants. Location: Amsterdam Nieuw West or Zoom.
  • A group workshop of 3,5 hours. ACT in a nutshell. In this workshop, I’ll explain the six core processes of ACT and you will practice with several concepts. Location: in-company training, you provide a suitable space. Cost: € 995,-. A maximum of 25 people.
